Doctors are incredibly ambitious individuals who are well educated and often commit their lives to ongoing studies and career development.
Foundationally they have a desire to help and heal others and do this by working very hard.
But at what cost?
Is there enough time for personal and career goals when you are put under the pump to get through a full waiting room of patients, hour after hour?
The pressure and responsibility can be too much and you find yourself not having a life!
I can sympathize with GPs who are pushed to see 5-6 patients an hour.
I have worked in a job coach role where I was asked to see 12 clients a day for back-to-back 30-minute appointments; this was to consult them on finding sustainable employment. I got a strong sensation that I wasn’t giving them enough time for what they needed.
Moreover, I have heard from the General Practice industry time and time again how busy the existing doctors are. How there are not enough doctors. How the practice had to close the books. How the principle doctor is beyond retirement. The list goes on.
STOP! It’s time to look after yourself before you can truly look after others. Sometimes this means taking a step back, a few deep breaths and a long hard look at who you are, what you want and how you want things to go.
Working with a Transpersonal Coach allows you to have someone to bounce ideas off and offer reflections to create strategies to help you live life, your way.
I’m here to ask you some questions and bring you back to why you started this career in the first place.
How is your job going?
Is it rewarding for you?
Is it what “the medical student” in you thought it would be like? And if not what’s missing from the picture?
What about outside your work life? Are you spending enough time with your family, friends and on all the things you enjoy that make you happy? Or are you just plain tired?
I’d like you to remember this. As a Doctor you are special. You have developed and trained to a level, that allows you to help people in a way that no one else can. It’s up to you to deliver your profession whilst meeting your personal truths and connecting with your inner values so a more rewarding and less exhausting reality is available to you. In fact it could be the reality that you dreamed about when you started to get those high grades to be in this profession.
You deserve it and this self-nurturing will also allow you to build a better relationship with the people around you and may lead you to being a better Doctor.
I would like to give you this opportunity to find out more about you and how we can work on your goals and being the best possible version of yourself in your life and career as a Medical Practitioner.
